From New York - New York
Grand Hyatt became Maulana Azad Medical College from Aug 1-4 2002 in the heart of New York, the great apple. The year certainly started on tumultuous path and we went through roller coaster of our emotions while planning for the convention. Ultimately we had a good attendance and a great time.
Energy and enthusiasm was visible among Maulanians as they arrived at the
hotel in the dazzling city of New York. Thursday reception welcomed Maulanians
with Chole Bhature, Jelebi and Gulabjamuns. With tabla beat Renu and Bina brought
out the hidden talents and Ye sham aap ke naam brought the memories of yester
years. Rajinder’s songs added Romantic twist to the evening. Anitha and
Rashmi’s singing brought all to dance.
Friday morning started with new flow of energy (Reki) by Dr Sharma. CME was
well on time. Dr Gulshan Sethi gave a very innovative talk on cardiovascular
surgery. Tilak glamorised the hospitalist movement. Role of Pet scanning by
Ved brought out the secrets of the mindless.
The Reki additions by Dr Sharma added new dimension to our non CME activity. It was amazing to learn how Japanese and Chinese are using this flow of energy in curing many diseases. Rajeev pounded on the benefits of exercise(although he does not exercise himself.). Aditya Kaul touched the burning Topic of Bioterrorism.Rajindra Kapila had a method of dealing with tough bugs. Raj Marwaha touched the swollen joints with tender loving care.
Friday evening cruise around Manhattan was magnificent. Lightening rain or hurricanes… Nothing would stop Maulanians from having fun and they literally rocked the boat. Statue of Liberty welcomed our group with a smile. Urvashi and Sanjeev Anand with all the imperfections of music system ran the show smoothly.
Saturday morning started with breakfast and CME on time. Ravi Mittal spoke
on GERD
Although Matthee and Achaar may have gone against it. Dr Bansal spoke about
sweetness of blood and how to prevent future complications. Ramana brought
out the social issues of aging parents connecting the ABCDS to FOBS to DESIS.
Dr Ved Kaushik kept everyone on time.
Saturday night live(Jhoomn baraabar Jhoomn) by Rashmi and Sudhir brought back the college memories. Dancing floor had no space. Art bidding was another excitement and the secret of going to the sun in the nighrt became a public knowledge. I want to thank Rakesh Nanda for his generous bid.
Finally I want to thank the hosts, Seema and Arun, for a wonderful arrangement moderators(Rajesh, Rashmi and Renu) for all their efforts. The executive members (Ravinder, Tejinder, Dinesh, Shiv, Bhushan, Ved and Rajeev), CME chairman (Dr. Ved Kaushik) and editor Sudhir Ranjan for all their efforts and dedication in making the organisation successful. Next year meeting is in SanDiego. Information will be forthcoming.
